Farm access roads
From road to yard — typically 3.5–4.5m wide, often 100–500m long. Base of 300mm crushed limestone or MOT Type 1, surfaced in tarmac or tar & chip.
Yard hardstanding
Areas for parking, turning, equipment storage. Concrete for intensive use (dairy yards, grain stores), tarmac for general use.
Tractor tracks & field entrances
Field gateways, heavy-use turn-ins, poach-prone entrances. Concrete pads or crushed limestone over geotextile.
Dairy yards & livestock surfaces
Slip-resistant grooved concrete, acid-resistant finish for slurry-handling areas. Animal-welfare and food-safety compliant.
Grain store approaches
Heavy-duty concrete with reinforcement for HGV loading. Level, dust-resistant, washable.
Drainage — always
Catch pits, French drains, culverts, geotextile membranes. Rural sites live or die by water management. Every one of our rural installs engineers the drainage first.

Why farm surfacing is different to domestic
- Loads are 5–20x heavier than domestic.
- Drainage is life-or-death — not cosmetic.
- Access is harder — we bring materials to the site, often over existing soft ground.
- Weather windows matter — can't pour concrete in winter wet, can't lay tarmac in freeze.
- Working around livestock / ops — milk parlours, grain harvest, lambing — we schedule around them.
Typical agricultural pricing
- Crushed stone farm track (per m²): £28–£45
- Tarmac farm track (per m²): £50–£75
- Concrete yard (reinforced, per m²): £90–£140
- Field entrance hardening: £800–£2,500 per gate
At scale (500m²+ projects), rates drop significantly. Farm clients often phase projects across financial years.
